THE STORY OF US: Where I Was Coming From

When I was in 7th grade, people would ask me what I was going to do when I grew up. Would I sing or be in the ministry? To this I would reply, "This is all that I know. My husband is going to be in the ministry and I am going to be very involved."

That was the story I stuck with all the way through junior high and high school, through our move from Florida to Texas my junior year of high school, and on into college because every time I asked the Lord what he wanted of me, this was the answer I received. My dad was a pastor and still to this day my mom is such a big part of his ministry, so I assumed this would be what my life would be like...a pastor's wife. I never quite understood why the Lord wasn't more specific, but I know now. If He would have told me that I was going to be a magician's assistant and travel all over, I would have laughed out loud and thought that I was hallucinating thinking that it was God who was telling me this.

Since what I did know was that my direction in life was wrapped up in my future husband, I would dream about how I would meet him and what we would do together. My favorite tv show was "Who's the Boss?" (Remember that show with Tony Danza?) Because of that show, I always wanted to be best friends with a guy and then realize, BOOM! we're in love like they did on the tv show. The only thing was how could you do that in real life? Wouldn't one of you know that you're in love while you are "best friends?"
