April Fools!

Did you ever pull a really good April Fools Day joke? When I was in 5th grade, my teacher, Mrs. Cook asked my friend, Jennifer, and me to go to the office to get something for her. It happened to be April 1st, so I began forming a plan.

When we got back to the classroom, we did not enter first but the assistant principal entered shaking his head and frowning with us trailing humbly behind him looking at the ground as if we were in big trouble. He asked Mrs. Cook to talk with him. He tersely told us to take our seats while he talked with our teacher.

As I walked to my seat, I saw Mrs. Cook get very pale and timidly ask, "What's going on?" You see, Jennifer and I had never been in trouble in the classroom much less the office! The assistant principal filled her in on the joke rather quickly, but we got our teacher!!! Mrs. Cook was a very expressive black lady and yelled out, "Oooh! You had me going! I almost had a heart attack!" It was all our idea, but the assistant principal was very cooperative. I still remember that.
